Whether you acquired your dog from Vom Riegelhaus Kennels or purchased your dog elsewhere, quality training at Yolo Canine Academy will bring out the potential in your dog. While not all dogs canines do not possess the necessary quality to be trained for the advance skills of police service, Schutzhund or personal protection, all dogs can benefit from training and obedience programs, regardless of age, breed, or temperament. YCA offers a variety of training services and package deals designed to fit your needs. Renee Lancaster has been a certified trainer for over 30 years in all aspects of training, and will evaluate you and your dog's specific needs to find the right training program. The training techniques utilized by Yolo Canine Academy have been successful in nearly every breed; Renee prides herself in accepting all breeds even those that have failed elsewhere before.
Yolo Canine Academy is situated on 20 acres in Woodland, California. YCA amenities include a competition lighted training field for both day and night sessions; indoor enclosed building for year-round private and group obedience classes; separate agility course, year round water source for hunting and field trial training, nearby variety of tracking fields (both dirt and grass), and full service boarding kennel for extended stay training.
For more information on how to get started with an evaluation and learn more about Yolo Canine Academy's successful and proven training philosophy, contact Renee.
Yolo Canine Academy offers private lessons taught on a one-on-one basis. Private lessons are 50 minutes to one hour and include a thorough evaluation of the dog's temperament, and a plan to address the owner's specific needs. Yolo Canine Academy accepts all breeds, and no client is turned down for any behavior issues. Renee Lancaster specializes in rehabilitating dogs that have failed prior temperament tests or training courses.
Yolo Canine Academy offers weekly group obedience classes. Training classes run year round with both indoor and outdoor facilities to accommodate training rain or shine. Yolo Canine Academy offers three levels of training: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. Fee includes: six 1 hour sessions held one night a week for six weeks.
Beginner obedience training includes your basic on-leash commands of Heel, Sit, Stay, Down, and Come. The Beginner class also addresses common behavior modification training to resolve jumping up, barking, and aggression.
Intermediate training includes a continuation of on-leash training focused on handler foot work, hand signals, and preparation for American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Test (CGC).
Advanced obedience training builds on the training of the basic and intermediate classes, but continues with added focus on the recall command, off-leash work, agility, and preparation for more advanced AKC obedience titles such as the Companion Dog (CD), Companion Dog Excellent (CDX), and Utility Dog (UD). Advance training also is an opportunity for us to work on individual behavior issues, bicycle riding, walking multiple dogs, skateboards, distractions, and aggression.
Dog Boot Camp
Dog boot camp is a customized training program to meet the individual needs of your dog. Boot camp includes two to three weeks of in-house boarding and training at Yolo Canine Academy. Owner and Training Director, Renee Lancaster, trains all basic obedience commands and corrects individual behavior issues on a one-on-one basis. The fee includes three private follow up lessons and life-time group obedience classes to keep dog and handler brushed up on techniques. Yolo Canine Academy Dog Boot Camp requires an evaluation by Renee Lancaster prior to acceptance in this course. Space for this course is limited. Advanced reservations required.
Not sure what you are looking for or needs your dog may have? Renee Lancaster can provide private one-on-one evaluations for you and your canine companion to determine what training will produce the desired results. Evaluations are done at Yolo Canine Academy or in-home by appointment only.
Personal protection dogs have been proven statistically to deter criminals more than other security measures. Even if a dog is not trained to apprehend a suspect, it has been proven that burglars will bypass a house with a dog. Training your dog is an additional safeguard to you and your family because a dog successfully trained in personal protection can take the additional actions to stop unwanted visitors. A properly trained personal protection dog is less of a liability than an untrained house pet. Dogs that successfully complete personal protection training at Yolo Canine Academy demonstrate:

Schutzhund is German for protection dog and is a dog sport that was developed in Germany in the early 1900s as a breed suitability test for the German Shepherd Dog. Today Schutzhund is used as a sport where many breeds other than German Shepherd Dogs can compete in tracking, obedience, and protection.
Yolo Canine Academy is home of Vom Riegelhaus Kennels and can supply a Schutzhund competition quality dog or puppy to you. The most important aspect of Schutzhund training is working with the right canine companion. Schutzhund requires dedication to the sport and a willingness to learn but is rewarding to both dog and handler.
